This has come from a good place – from kindness, compassion, empathy, intelligence, and survival. You learned early that reading the room and adapting kept things okay. It was helpful then. It’s exhausting now. This workshop shows you how to stop absorbing everything that isn’t yours, so you just have your own to manage!

Holding It Together at Work, Falling Apart at Home

Dr. Lisa Ahmad

This workshop addresses why you feel so angry with the ones you love the most.  We look at why you absorb everyone’s emotions without even meaning to. You feel the shift in a room before anyone has said a word. You clock your partner’s mood the second they walk in, or the kind of day the kids have had as soon as you see them at pick up. You can tell when a colleague is off just by the way they type their email.

You don’t just see feelings. You absorb them. And because you’re so good at reading between the lines, you end up doing the emotional labour no one else can even name. You soothe, soften, anticipate, carry, adapt. You become everyone else’s emotional buffer.

The problem? Your body reacts to all of this before you’ve even had time to think. Your shoulders tighten, your chest gets heavy, and suddenly you’re managing the emotional temperature of a room that no one else is even aware of. You’re steadying everyone else. Nobody’s steadying you. It’s no wonder that when left alone in the kitchen clearing up the mess that you didn’t make, that you start to feel like you are falling apart.

In this 60-minute workshop, you’ll learn:

  • Why you absorb everyone’s emotions, when you really don’t need any more!
  • What emotional bandwidth actually is, and why yours runs out by 7pm
  • The hidden cost of being “the reliable one” at work and at home
  • Why you’re patient with colleagues but snap at your family
  • How to stop over-functioning without dropping your standards
  • Practical boundaries that protect your energy without making you feel selfish or guilty
